Halloween with Wonder Woman & Word Girl

Had a great trip north to visit some of the cousins and my Aunt Gayle yesterday and today.  Had the pleasure of getting totally drenched in rainy Oregon with Wonder Woman and Word Girl last night trick or treating.  It was good to be with family and enjoy the dress up/candy excitement of the little ones.  These two still seem to be contemplating the fact that I am the same age as their father (still asking, are you a kid or an adolescent?).  I am happy to know they sense my young heart.

Living Between Life and Death: A Tribute to Uncle Hal

DSC_0140

Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do. -Brené Brown

Today I gave a message at the Eugene Mennonite Church and below here is the take away.

I would like each of you to consider if you only had 6 days left on Earth, like Uncle Hal had from the day he admitted on hospice – are you living the life you want to be living? Do those you love and cherish know how you define a good death -for an instance do you want to die at home, amongst family or friends? And, are you in pain? How are you sharing your pain with others? Please do not suffer alone.
I leave you with this…
Grief never ends…but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith…It is the price of love.

Waves of Grief

Just when I start feeling stronger, heart full, mind clear…something hits me again.  Stomach hurts, head hurts…I sit, meditate, or try to catch up on some much needed sleep.  Yesterday I plunked on the piano for the first time in….who knows how long.  Trying to find some music for a tribute I’m working on for next weekend.  Shall I call it the pre-memorial?  I’m not sure but something was telling me I needed to tell my story of my final hours with Uncle Hal.  And there’s probably some other messages weaved in there that I’m only just now unearthing.

One thing I’ve let go this year is my photoblog ritual.  Perhaps I’ll be re-committing to this again.  In any case here are a some photos from before Uncle Hal died. Oh and part of today’s horoscope:  Relax your resistance and trust your intuition to teach you how to navigate the murky waters of your heart.

Playing with HDR from Kelly Butte

Gorgeous day out today with about 65 degrees and heading towards 74.  Today I practiced using HDR with my Nikon D5100 from Kelly Butte looking over both Springfield and Eugene.

New Used Camera

Well I chose to retire my Pentax- Kx.  I went to take it in to get fixed and found it out it has mold growing in the prism that would cost over $200 to clean.  After searching around for my next camera I decided to get a used Nikon D5100 which will allow me to take HDR photos.  Looking forward to the new learning curve ahead!

Piano Kitty

A busy summer this year, amazed August is just about here.  Haven’t taken my camera out as much as I’d have liked this summer but I’ve also mostly been working.  Looking forward to some photography during some vacation time in September.  With a high of 95 degrees today I could tell the heat was getting a bit much for the critters today.  Just before leaving for my extra hot soccer game I found our cat Katara sprawled about the piano near the fan.  IMGP4657

Before the Heat

I read that yesterday was supposed to get to 81% humidity with a high of 91.  For those in the Willamette Valley – that’s hot.  Fell asleep early last night, likely due to the heat and was up before sunrise today.  Tonight’s going to be a hot one playing indoor soccer, my jersey’s already in the freezer waiting to cool me down for the 6:15pm game.

Today’s my first solo day at the hospital, meaning I’m no longer in training with someone and instead working on my own covering a neurology floor for the next two days (different assignment the next coupe of days).  I had a moment of panic last Tuesday when I realized this, having completely lost track of the fact that July was so near- thinking how can this be that I’ve completed three weeks of training already?!

So I appreciate the extra time for silence and centering this morning.  I’m excited for the most part, but yes a little pensive too.  Here’s my grounding for the morning.  Happy July my friends.  IMGP4019
